Amritsar, the religious and tourist capital of Punjab, is a developing city with an international airport that serves not only the state of Punjab but also the neighbouring states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
One of the most important aspects that contribute to an airport's development and growth is the development of public transportation connectivity with its catchment areas; however, despite being the busiest international airport in Punjab and Northern India's second busiest outside of Delhi, Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar (SGRDJI) lacks adequate public transport connectivity. It is likely India's only major international airport with no public transportation connections to its catchment areas or even the city itself.
