One of the most important Ekadashi in Hindu culture is Devutthana Ekadashi, also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi. The Shukla Paksha is observed on the eleventh day, or Ekadashi, of the Kartik month. This day signifies the end of the Chaturmas, a four-month period during which Lord Vishnu is said to slumber. Hindu legend says that Lord Vishnu sleeps on the eve of Ekadashi in the month of Ashada during Shukla Paksha and wakes up immediately on the eve of Devutthana Ekadashi. It is thought that no fortunate deed is carried out by anyone throughout these four months. None of the holy and religious duties may be completed until Lord Vishnu has awoken.
