International Womens Day 2025, Festival

India

A woman is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable and powerful beings in this world. She is at the heart of our existence and plays an essential role in shaping our society. However, despite their importance, women are still considered inferior to men in some parts of the world. This discrimination and undervaluing of women must stop, as they are the ones who bring life into this world. Without women, there would be no men. Women have proven time and again that they are capable of achieving great things. They have excelled in every field and have shown the world that they are not just meant to be confined to traditional roles. It is high time that we acknowledge their contributions and give them the recognition they deserve. Let us support them as they continue to break barriers and show the world that they are capable of anything.

International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8th every year, is a day dedicated to honouring, loving, and respecting women. It is a day to appreciate the beauty and grace of a woman, who is responsible for giving birth to great personalities and being their primary teacher in their early years. Women play various roles in different aspects of life, and this day serves as a reminder to acknowledge and honour their contributions. Women have strong spirits that enable them to flourish in their vocations and make significant contributions to the country and their family's lives. They deserve our respect and appreciation for all that they do. Let us celebrate International Women's Day and continue to support and empower women to achieve their full potential.

History Of International Women's Day

In 1975, the United Nations began commemorating International Women's Day, which had been celebrated since the early 1900s during a time of great industrial and social change and rising radical ideologies. The Socialist Party of America organized the first National Woman's Day celebration on February 28, 1909, in New York City, at the urging of activist Theresa Malkiel. Although it has been suggested that the holiday originated from a march by female garment workers in New York on March 8, 1857, experts consider this to be a falsehood designed to separate the holiday from its communist roots. At an international socialist women's conference before the Socialist Second International's general assembly in Copenhagen in August 1910, German delegates including Clara Zetkin and Käte Duncker proposed the establishment of an annual Women's Day, but no specific date was chosen. The idea was partially inspired by American socialists. The first International Women's Day was celebrated by over a million people on March 19 of the following year in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland. In Austria-Hungary alone, there were 300 protests, and women marched through the Ringstrasse in Vienna with banners honoring the victims of the Paris Commune, protesting against workplace sexism and fighting for voting and public office rights throughout Europe. Initially, IWD was not celebrated on a specific day, but it was typically observed in late February or early March. Russia observed the day for the first time in 1913 on the last Saturday of February, while Americans continued to celebrate "National Women's Day" on the last Sunday of February (based on the Julian calendar, which had the date of March 8 in the Gregorian calendar). The first International Women's Day celebration in Germany occurred on March 8 of that year, possibly because it was a Sunday. Like other countries, Germany observed the day in honor of women's voting rights, which were granted to German women in 1918. In a parallel march in support of women's suffrage in London, Sylvia Pankhurst was arrested in front of Charing Cross station while en route to speak in Trafalgar Square.

Celebration Of International Women's Day

The celebration of Women's Day is not just a formality but an opportunity to honour the sacrifices and contributions of women in different aspects of life. It is a day to reflect on the challenges that women have faced and continue to face in our society. The women of India have experienced a lot of difficulties over the years, and the fight for women's rights has been long and arduous. Women's Day is an occasion to celebrate the achievements that have been made so far and to acknowledge that more needs to be done. The celebration of Women's Day in India is marked by a variety of events and activities that reflect the country's diverse cultural heritage. The celebrations are held in public and private spaces, and everyone is encouraged to participate in them. The events range from large gatherings, seminars, films, and TV shows to gender-sensitive plays that are produced by NGOs working towards women's empowerment.

Many organisations in India are working hard to end the practice of dowry and to educate girls to ensure that they have a bright future. Giving women seats in local panchayats is another way of empowering them and ensuring that their voices are heard. These initiatives have aided in the empowerment of women in India, but much work still needs to be done to ensure that women are safe and secure in both the public and private sectors. One of the biggest challenges that women face in India is violence. Many women have experienced different forms of violence such as rape, dowry, female infanticide, and exploitation in the workplace. To raise awareness of these issues, people in India put on plays that portray different instances of violence against women. These events allow women to come together and share personal stories and advice on how to deal with difficult situations.

Women's Day is an occasion to celebrate the achievements of women and to acknowledge that more needs to be done to ensure that women are safe and secure in society. The empowerment of women in India is a long process that requires the collective effort of everyone. Women should hold fast to the belief that they have the power to nurture, create, and shape up lives. Her voice must not be harsh enough to frighten and get their work done, but it carries a great depth of knowledge and strength. Women in India are resilient and resourceful, and with the right support and opportunities, they can achieve their full potential.

Is International Women's Day Still Necessary?

Yes, International Women's Day is still necessary as complacency should not have a place in our society. The World Economic Forum predicts that neither ourselves nor our children will witness gender equality in our lifetimes, with almost a century needed to achieve it. Therefore, it is essential that we all take part in the crucial work required to reach this goal.
